i've been spending lots of time with the entire EP since last week's scene catchup, and i'll more than likely pick something here for my Smokers Delight selection late in the year..

Montreal duo The Gulf Stream earns a place of choice on Archipel by sculpting a highly emotional, yet cinematographic piece of art with an EP titled "Micro-Shima." Playing multiple times at MUTEK and featuring in well known local festival, the duo also have gain a lot of experience in producing evolutive atmospheric music that takes the listener with tension and beauty. In the self titled "The Gulf Stream", they showcase a part of their soul with touching melodies and a wonderful use of the sonic palette. Dissolving Coffee machine is probably a chant to what most music producer affectionnates the most: caffeine. It is deep and warm, open and spacious. It certainly is a complementary song for the early morning. InnerSpace closes the effort with force and power, yet emotional and calm at the same time.

it's only track 1 on this release that i've been enjoying (although track 3 isn't half bad).. it doesn't really come under my definition of 'spooky tech' (◄◄), but there's definitely a very tasteful sense of foreboding about the production..

it's also somewhat reminded me of Mia's Dont Catch My Soul; i posted that EP during one of my old cycles 4 years ago which has been downloaded over 7 thousand times so far.. still available here should you be interested.

this past week has seen too many important dub techno releases that would clutter my due scene catchup.. hence this seperate entry for enthusiants of the field.

there's two particular highlights, starting with an all-round excellent dub techno infused deep house release:

outstanding entrée from a brand new label based out of Spain entitled 'Future Reactions Recordings'; which i honestly haven't much of a clue about yet. Satore's been around in the field of dub techno already, and has previously turned up on AvantRoots which is co-owned by Pablo Bolivar..
